These mule deer bucks were all in the woods outside a friend's house. They would have run if I had gotten closer, but mule deer are inherently curious and they watched to see what I was doing as I set up to take their photo. This is a late summer scene in the Sandhills, with cows peacefully grazing against a backdrop of Nebraska Sandhills, with the grasses beginning to turn their Fall colors. Different types of grasses and flowers add texture to the foreground, all set against the blue Nebraska sky. This mixed media pastel is 11x14, matted and placed in a 16x20 frame. We were out fishing with my daughter at her favorite bluegill hole when I decided to take a photo of the way her bobber appeared in the wonderfully calm green water.
